Goal:

To increase accessibility to health and welfare services for people who live in rural communities who do not have the means to access these services readily.

This program assists orphans, vulnerable children and families living in informal communities by providing social services, home based care services and food support. The program is currently serving about 100 children and adults a month. The home care workers and program staff are undergoing intensive training in HIV/AIDS, TB and client care and support activities. Right to Care and the Department of Social Development are partnering with Refilwe to implement this program.

Activities include:

Home care workers visit informal settlements around our community and assist with giving care to those whom require care.

They are also involved with information and awareness programmes.

They facilitate the commencement and maintenance of food gardens.

They identify orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) within the community and refer them to the OVC coordinator for assessment and/or follow-up.

They assist the elderly as required.

They refer clients to the poverty alleviation coordinator for food parcels and clothes as required.

Follow up and home care on clients with chronic diseases like Tuberculosis (TB), Diabetes, Hypertension, AIDS, and cholesterol related illness.
