Goal: To provide each learner with a diverse education in a safe and supportive environment that promotes self-discipline, motivation and excellence in learning. Both parents and community members are being encouraged to assist the students to become independent and responsible adults who will contribute positively in a global community.

The school started with seven Grade 8 learners in 2008. Currently 18 children from Grade 6 to Grade 9 are registered as learners.  Major expansions of the Hands of Hope School will take place from 2009 to 2012. The school is open to enrol children from Refilwe’s neighbouring communities and will also be utilized as a multipurpose education centre that will provide adult literacy classes and training opportunities for adults.

To compliment academic excellence, Hands of Hope School attaches great importance to vocational training as a gateway to a brighter future for the learners. The school plan to offer vocational skills training and knowledge for initial and continuing employment, for self employment opportunities and opportunities for analyzing career alternatives. Many of the learners had infrequent exposure to education in the past and therefore need more specialized and one-to-one teaching.

How to help? Presently the school is operating on a shoe string budget and the most urgent needs are:

- Qualified teachers who could commit to teach part-time on a voluntary basis
- Support in running costs for the school
- Support school fees for a child which currently works out at R1700/child/month
- Textbooks, copy books, stationary and art supplies
