Goal: To provide a loving environment for our children whereby they could be cared for spiritually, physically and emotionally.

The project provides a non-institutionalized environment where orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children can become part of a family known as a God Parent family. The children’s court places the children with the God Parents through a foster care agreement. Social workers from the Department of Social Development regularly monitor the welfare of the children and the efficacy of the program.

Even after they had left school the children will remain part of their Refilwe God Parent family units. Refilwe is committed to help each child to realize dreams, find a suitable career path and a successful future. Their house at Refilwe is a place they could call home. Currently the project provides a safe home for 43 children through 10 God Parent families. A family has 4 to 6 children.

Each God Parent has the opportunity to take responsibility for their children’s education, physical, emotional and spiritual development as long as it aligns with the mission, vision and values of Refilwe. Refilwe is there to guide, provide support and help find resources to assist the parents with this challenging task. Before someone comes to serve as a God Parent Refilwe make sure the person understands that this position is a lifelong commitment as part of a calling and not regarded as a job.

The needs are many and often potential donors and benefactors only will identify these after spending time with a specific family. Refilwe encourages people from outside to adopt a family. Some families are easier to relate to than others, mainly because of language barriers, but the reward in serving a family through continuous mentoring and support is priceless especially when breaking past the language barriers.  

Refilwe is looking for benefactors who would like to invest in the development of the career paths for the high school children. This is a long term commitment and partnership and might require some personal time.
