All activities of Refilwe revolve around sustainability of the community and what better way to achieve this than by teaching basic woodworking skills to members of the community.
All too often carpentry is seen as a highly skilled profession where sophisticated furniture and complex wooden projects are encountered. This need not be the case; there is a good living to be made from small useful and inexpensive wooden articles that are used in and around the house and office, for instance: Bread, Cheese and Carving boards, Utensil, Trinket, Desk utility and Jewellery boxes, Picture frames and many more! Furthermore, there is an even bigger need for strong uncomplicated wooden toys for the 1 to 5 years age group. Both these projects can be handled without power tools and with a tool budget of between R500 and R1500. However to be sustainable both projects require a continuous supply of wood. This can be in the form of either new timber; off-cuts form other projects or reclaimed timber form old buildings.

To support the carpentry project Refilwe have commenced making coffins to achieve two objectives.
1. Generate cash for the carpentry project
2. Provide a sustainable supply of off-cuts to the two sub-projects

The coffin project is in its infancy but we are very optimistic as it seems to be sustainable and the quality of the workmanship has been accepted by one of the major Funeral Homes in Gauteng! We can make any custom request for wooden products like furniture, Jungle Gym’s, etc. If you want to know more about this product and/or prices please contact Jaco by clicking HERE
