CLUSTER FOSTER CARE TO ESTABLISH A FAMILY ENVIRONMENT

Our main focus at Refilwe is child care. Our God Parent Program uses a family-based foster care model where we provide safe and stable home environments for up to 40 vulnerable children. The children are placed with foster parents within a loving family unit called a God Parent family. We can provide for up to 10 God Parent families living at Refilwe. Each family consists of between 4 to 6 children. The Department of Social Development places each child with a suitable God Parent family, by court order.

The children receive quality education, beginning at the Refilwe Early Childhood Development Centre and continuing through very reputable local primary and secondary schools. We then assist those who have left school to access tertiary education, training courses, or the work force, depending on the skills and interests of each child.

CLUSTER FOSTER CARE

Cluster foster care describes the development of a network of foster families who can provide each other with mutual support. The households are typically located within close distance of each other, enabling easier organisation and provision of support and services. Cluster foster families often care for children who have experienced trauma.

“We live in a world in we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say ‘It’s not my child, not my community, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.” -Fred Rogers

INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM

As our children become young adults they often need assistance developing their own life plans. We are seeking assistance from employers in the Lanseria area who would be willing to give our older kids work experience opportunities in order to expose them to various career paths that they may not have encountered before.
